Mayor Henry Braun says he hasn’t yet decided whether he will seek a second term in October’s municipal election.

Last week, Coun. Les Barkman became the first Abbotsford resident to publicly voice his intention to seek a seat this fall. Politicians in other jurisdictions have also announced their intentions, with numerous mayors planning to leave municipal politics, including the mayors of White Rock, Vancouver, Langley City, Delta and Port Coquitlam. Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner has said she will run again.

“I have been thinking about it, to say I haven’t would be disingenuous, Braun said last week when asked by The News. He suggested he hasn’t spent much time on the issue and that he will probably wait to the spring.

With disagreements on council rare on decisions large and small, Braun said he’ll also be watching his council colleagues.

“I will probably wait to see what the rest of council will do,” he said. “If everyone said they’re not, that would worry me.”
