Mission mayor and NDP candidate Pam Alexis has been declared MLA-elect for Abbotsford-Mission, defeating BC Liberal incumbent Simon Gibson.

Official results show Alexis won the seat with a margin of 744 votes over Gibson.

“I want to thank the voters in Abbotsford-Mission for putting their trust in me, and in John Horgan and the BC NDP,” Alexis said in a press release issued Saturday. “It is a privilege to be able to serve our communities. I know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I am no stranger to hard work.”

“I also want to thank Simon Gibson for his years of service to our community,” she added.

Alexis said “Elections require a lot of work and effort by many players. It’s important to recognize the hundreds of Elections BC staff who worked so hard to ensure the integrity of our democratic process and deliver a safe and well-run election. And of course, the many volunteers who helped all candidates get their message to voters.

“I look forward to getting to work for people in Abbotsford-Mission. As part of John Horgan’s team, we’ll be working hard to keep people healthy and safe by listening to Dr. Bonnie Henry and investing in healthcare and seniors care.”
