Residents can find out more this weekend about a proposed new $28 million transit depot and maintenance facility.

BC Transit is hosting an open house Saturday related to its application to build the new depot on a five-acre Gladys Road property just south of the Highway 11/Sumas Way junction.

BC Transit bought the land from the city late last year.

The existing Riverside Road facility is currently at capacity and limits expansions to Abbotsford’s transit system. The new facility will provide for the storage and maintenance of around 100 buses, with the ability to expand to 150 in the future.

It will also include a CNG fueling station, an automated bus wash, seven maintenance bays and administrative offices. Costs are being shared among the federal and provincial governments, City of Abbotsford and District of Mission.

More details about the project are available at www.bctransit.com/central-fraser-valley/facility-pro

The open house is Jan. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Abbotsford Virtual School, 33952 Pine St.
