A loud bang awoke the occupants of a home in the 3500 block of Valdes Drive in Abbotsford early Tuesday morning.

The homeowner ran to the front of the home, found a lit container at the front door and kicked it onto the lawn, extinguishing it.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the molotov cocktail resulted in smoke damage to the front porch and front door, but no one was injured.

Fire crews and police were called to the scene, and the area was taped off while officers investigated.

MacDonald said there is no immediately apparent reason for the makeshift device having been thrown at the residence.

"The challenge we have here is that there are about half a dozen people that live upstairs and another four or so who live downstairs, so we have to look into the backgrounds of all those people and the history of the house."

The incident occurred at about 4 a.m. Valdes Drive is located in west Abbotsford, running north-south of Blueridge Drive and west of Clearbrook Road.
