Ryan Plecas – the son of Abbotsford MLA Darryl Plecas – has been charged with dangerous driving in connection with an incident in Abbotsford on Dec. 21, the Ministry of Justice announced Thursday.
Another man, Cody Green, has been charged with one count of mischief. Both charges were approved by a special prosecutor appointed by the Ministry of Justice's criminal justice branch.
The ministry said lawyer Marty Stern was appointed as special prosecutor on June 12 after the Abbotsford Police Department delivered an investigative report.
Because Ryan Plecas's father is a provincial politician, the ministry's assistant deputy attorney general decided a special prosecutor "should be appointed to avoid any real or perceived improper influence in the the exercise of prosecutorial discretion."
Plecas is scheduled to make his first court appearance July 30, with Green set to appear in court August 6.
