A pair of ATV crashes on forest service roads over the weekend caused Mission Search and Rescue Society (MSAR) crews to carry out joint rescue operations with neighbouring emergency teams.
Both crashes required a medevac to take the injured to hospital.
“It was a busy weekend, that’s for sure,” said Dean Osen, manager of the Mission and Rescue Society.
The first crash occurred on Sunday, Sept. 6, and the MSAR teamed up with the Kent Harrison Search and Rescue Team Society and the Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue (CFVSAR). The second crash took place the following day, Sept. 7, with MSAR joining with CFVSAR for the rescue.
Sunday’s crash occurred at around 4 p.m., when two males were injured after the ATV they were driving rolled off the side of In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road on the northwest side of Harrison Lake, Osen said. He added ATV safety and proper safety equipment on these back roads is a frequent issue.

He said it was an Code Three emergency call, but it still took crews an hour to reach the accident site because of the secluded location.
MSAR got Monday’s call at 7 p.m., according to Osen, after an ATV crashed off the side of Lost Creek Forest Service Road and down into a creek bed near Davis Lake. The male driver suffered significant internal injuries.
CFVSAR’s rope rescue team was called in to assist with the rescue in both incidents, according to MSAR.
