A fire in the basement suite of a central Abbotsford home Wednesday evening prompted a quick response from firefighters, who were able to snuff out the flames before they could spread to the unit above.

Crews were called to the house, at the corner of Peardonville Road and Lynden Street in central Abbotsford, around 11 p.m. When they arrived they found flames coming from the corner of the house.

Assistant fire chief Jeff Snider said the firefighters were able to quickly knock back the flames and limit the harm it caused to the home.

"There's some damage to the basement suite, but they kept it to a minimum," he said.

The house fire was the second in as many nights for Abbotsford fire crews. The previous evening they had quelled flames at a house on Luburnum Avenue.
