You can't keep Moe Gill down.
The long-time Abbotsford Councillor has been contemplating provincial politics for several years, and was considered one of the favourites to run for the Liberals in the riding of Abbotsford-South, which became vacant when MLA John van Dongen left the party.
However, in November Gill's bid for the Liberal nod was put on hold when party brass acclaimed University of the Fraser Valley criminology instructor Daryl Plecas as their candidate.
Gill claimed he had been "bullied" out of the riding.
But now, Gill is ready to throw his hat into the political ring as an independent.
On Sunday, Gill will officially announce his intention to run in the riding of Abbotsford-West.
"Originally, I was looking for Abbotsford-South because that's what I've been working on for the last few years, developing a membership in there and a relationship there," said Gill.
But he said with a Liberal and NDP candidate already running, as well as John van Dongen likely running as an independent, it was time to look elsewhere.
After talking with his advisors, Gill said it was determined he had a good following in the riding of Abbotsford-West as well.
The move will put him in competition against long-time Liberal MLA Mike de Jong.
"It will be a tight race, but I'm hoping to come out as the winner," he said.
He will also be battling NDP candidate Sukhi Dhami.
Gill's announcement on Sunday will take place at the Abbotsford Banquet Hall (33738 Laurel St.) and runs from 2-5 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend.
