Former Abbotsford councillor and long-time supporter of the arts, Christine Caldwell, has passed away.
Caldwell served on city council for one term, between 2005 and 2008.
Former Abbotsford mayor, George Peary, said Caldwell’s passing is a great loss to the community.
Caldwell resided in Abbotsford since 1969 and was involved in the arts throughout her time in the city. She served as president of the Abbotsford Arts Council and was a member of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce’s tourism committee.
She had also worked as a costume designer, creating outfits for a number of local groups including the Fraser Valley Stage Production Society.
Suzanne Greening, executive director of The Reach gallery, said the local arts community has lost a strong advocate.
“She was full of life, she will be missed.”
Peary said her passionate contributions to the community and the arts must be remembered.
“Her heart was in this community.”
Caldwell was a also local realtor and spent 14 years working with Landmark Realty and served on the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.
Peary said she gained renown as a realtor for her ability to stage homes beautifully.
“She has this artistic flair that she brought to everything.”
Caldwell is survived by husband, Lyle, and two children.
