Flags will be raised at Abbotsford City Hall on Tuesday, in honour of National Hospice Palliative Care week, which runs from May 5 to 11.

Mayor Bruce Banman will fly the flags during a ceremony supported by representatives from Canuck Place Children's Hospice and the Abbotsford Hospice Society executive director Debbie Lehmann. The ceremony will run from 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Both organizations are Campus of Care partners, completing construction of their facilities adjacent to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford will double the capacity of Canuck Place in Vancouver. The Abbotsford Hospice Society’s adult hospice, Holmberg House, will provide end-of-life care to people 19 years and older, as well as support for grieving families and friends. Holmberg House held its groundbreaking ceremony in March. Both buildings are scheduled to open in 2014.
