The centre portion of the Lafarge Readymix Concrete plant in Abbotsford was damaged by fire early Tuesday morning.

Crews were called at about 12:30 a.m. to the plant at 31601 Walmsley Ave.

When they arrived, the main building was fully engulfed in flames. Crews aggressively attacked the fire and brought it under control.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Jennifer Lewis, director of communications for Lafarge Canada, said 17 people are employed at the location. She said these workers and the concrete trucks have been redeployed to Lafarge plants in Chilliwack and Maple Ridge.

“As a result, we don not anticipate impact to customers,” she said.

She said it’s too soon to determine “what the future is for this location.”

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service investigators were on the scene for several hours following the blaze as they tried to determine the cause. No further information was yet available.
