A barn in east Abbotsford was destroyed by fire on Tuesday night.

Crews from Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) were called out at about 10:30 p.m. to the fully involved fire at 4888 Emmerson Road, off Dawson Road in the Sumas Mountain area.

Due to the remote area, tankers had to be brought in to shuttle water to the fire.

"We don't have any hydrants here so … water's usually a tough go up here," said Assistant Fire Chief Ron Hull.

No injuries were reported, and there were no animals in the barn at the time of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

About 40 firefighters and 13 AFRS units were on the scene, working late into the night to fully extinguish the fire.
