Nine people have officially declared for the vacant seat on Abbotsford council.

The nomination period officially closed on Friday (Aug. 20) at 4 p.m. and several new names declared prior to that period ending.

Hopefuls Dave Sidhu, Manjit Sohi, Dao Tran and Gerda Peachey were joined by Dan Dennill, Aird Flavelle, David McLauren, Korky Neufeld and Tom Norton on the ballot.

The campaign period runs from Aug. 28 to Sept. 25 and there are advance voting opportunities on Wednesday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

General voting day occurs on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The vacant seat came to be after Bruce Banman decided to step down after winning the Abbotsford South riding in the 2020 B.C. provincial election. He had originally stated he was going to do both jobs, but later changed his mind.
