Extra day in jail for assault

An Abbotsford man has been sentenced to an additional day in jail and 18 months’ probation, while charges were stayed for his co-accused in relation to an assault on Dec. 2.

An Abbotsford man has been sentenced to an additional day in jail and 18 months’ probation, while charges were stayed for his co-accused in relation to an assault on Dec. 2.Craig Kenneth Morris, 41, was given credit for the 60 days he has already served in prison. He pleaded guilty to assault and uttering threats, while charges of assault with a weapon, using a firearm, forcible confinement and sexual assault were stayed.Charges of unlawful confinement, use of a firearm and assault were stayed against Malinda Hewlett, 29.The two were charged after an incident on Dec. 2 in an apartment in the 2400 block of Countess Street. A woman said she had been confined and threatened by a man she had known for only a few days.The victim, 37, said the man had become violent and used a gun to threaten her, and then called another woman to the scene.The victim was able to escape and run to the door of an apartment building, where she buzzed several residences until someone answered and alerted police.
