A 39-year-old man was issued a 24-hour driving suspension after he hit an Abbotsford Police vehicle that was pulled over to issue a ticket on Thursday afternoon.
Const. Paul Walker said police were conducting a distracted-driving blitz in the Five Corners area just after 3 p.m. when the incident took place.
An officer had just pulled over a vehicle in the westbound lanes of South Fraser Way and was in his car writing up a ticket for the driver. The emergency lights on the unmarked police car were activated, Walker said.
The police vehicle was then struck on the left rear quarter panel and along the left side by a Ford Focus.
The driver briefly parked in front of the vehicle that had been pulled over, but drove away before the officer could speak with him.
Another traffic officer, who was alerted to the incident by radio, pulled over the driver on South Fraser Way at Tessaro Crescent.
The man was issued a driving suspension for drug use, and various Motor Vehicle Act charges are being considered against him.
