Drive-by shooting on Gatefield Avenue in Abbotsford

A bullet from one of the shots fired during a drive-by shooting Friday night in Abbotsford lodged in a wall above some children's shoes, Const. Ian MacDonald said.

No one was hurt in the incident, but MacDonald said the location of the bullet shocked officers on the scene. Two young children and four adults were home at the time of the shooting in the 32900 block of Gatefield Avenue.

The motive for the shooting is still vague, but MacDonald said police do not believe gangs or drugs are involved.

"By looking at the background of the people involved .... we don't see any links.".

The residents have lived in the home for seven or eight years, MacDonald said.

Several callers reported hearing shots being fired at about 10 p.m. When police arrived on the scene, they located shell casings and observed that four rounds had struck the home.

MacDonald said two of the shots entered the house.

According to witnesses, the suspects fled in a black Ford F-150 XTR pickup truck.

MacDonald said the shooting differs from one that occurred on Hope Road on Feb. 20. In that incident, shots were fired at the wrong home and were believed to be intended for a known gang member living elsewhere on the street.

MacDonald said police have no indication that anyone residing on Gatefield Avenue is linked to criminal activity.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
