Lynne Doucette can usually be found working at her job at Abbotsford city hall.

But on the first Saturday of every month she, along with other members of Genesis Church and the 5 and 2 Ministries, can be found coordinating food service for the homeless and less fortunate at Jubilee Park.

This past Saturday, Doucette and her fiance, Richard Butt, decided to get married in a brief ceremony at the park and invited their wedding guests to bring food to share with those in need.

Doucette said she wants to raise awareness in the community that the solution to the homelessness issue is not going to be solved by governments alone.

"We all can be part of the solution. Once you get to know these precious children of God, you find out they are not unlike the rest of us, except many of them have had traumatic life experiences,” she said.

Doucette said while considering a venue for her wedding, she was ecstatic when she realized that she and Butt could provide a meal for those who really need it and educate their guests on the reality of homelessness at the same time.

Pastor Dan Friesen officiated the ceremony, and some members of the church helped serve the food.

"I'm very excited for Rick and Lynne and their involvement in 5 and 2,” Friesen said.

Donations of meat, cases of water, salads, soft veggies, fruit and dessert are gratefully accepted on the first Saturday of every month at Jubilee Park, and anyone who is willing to help at the event is welcome to show up.
