Abbotsford police have recommended charges against a man they say rammed an emergency response team (ERT) vehicle in July and remains at large.
Three ERT members responded to a home in the 1800 block of Dahl Crescent on July 19 to arrest Ty Burgess, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation, Sgt. Judy Bird said at the time.
They spotted Burgess driving a GMC Sierra pickup away from the home of an acquaintance and tried to pull him over but he sideswipped their vehicled and fled, she said.
The driver was not caught that day.
Since that day, investigators have confirmed that the man who fled that day was indeed Burgess, Const. Ian MacDonald said.
He said police have recommended charges of obstruction, dangerous driving, fleeing the scene of an accident and failure to stop for police in connection with the Abbotsford incident. He also remains wanted on the existing warrant for a parole violation.
He has previously been convicted of robbery with a firearm, assault with a weapon, assault, break and enter (three times), disguise with intent, theft, dangerous driving, and fleeing police, among others.
Burgess is 33 and is known to spend time in both Abbotsford and Chilliwack, police say. He is 6’ 2” tall and 216 pounds.
