Border runners arrested in Abbotsford

U.S. Border Patrol finds meth-filled backpacks on their side of the border.

Two border runners were captured in Abbotsford on Wednesday night.

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) was contacted at 8:45 p.m. by the U.S. Border Patrol about border runners heading north in the 39000 block of Old Yale Road.

APD patrol officers and a K9 unit immediately moved into the area, and they were assisted by the Air One police helicopter and integrated road safety officers who were working in Abbotsford.

APD Const. Ian MacDonald said the "extremely effective" communication between Canadian and American authorities resulted in the capture of two suspects in rural southeast Abbotsford.

The 23- and 49-year-old men are being held by the APD for Canadian immigration officials.

The U.S. Border Patrol located backpacks on their side of the border that contained approximately 20 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine.
