Police have confirmed that a body found April 29 on Sumas Mountain is that of Earl Olson, who was last seen in Abbotsford on March 22.

Abbotsford Police have confirmed that a body found April 29 on Sumas Mountain is that of missing man Earl Olson.

Const. Ian MacDonald said it has taken until now to confirm the identity of the human remains, and an autopsy has revealed that foul play was not involved in the death.

The body were discovered in a wooded area while a Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue Team was conducting a grid search in the area close to where Olson’s abandoned truck was found April 5.

Olson had last been seen in Abbotsford on March 22, and his truck was found on a logging road in Sumas Mountain Inter-Regional Park.

Police issued public pleas to try to locate Olson and included images from surveillance video showing him at local businesses on March 22, as well as photos of his 1995 Dodge pickup.

They also indicated that the battery had been removed from Olson’s truck, but they didn’t know whether Olson, or someone else, had taken it.

MacDonald said the Abbotsford Police Department extends its condolences to Olson’s family and friends.
