A section of Mt. Lehman Road was closed Friday morning as Abbotsford police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run that occurred on Thursday night.

A bicyclist is dead after a hit-and-run on Mt. Lehman Road late Thursday night.

Police say they were notified of a severely injured bicyclist in the 2000 block of Mt. Lehman Road around 11:20 p.m. Thursday. Abbotsford Police Department (APD) officers and paramedics arrived, but were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has not yet been identified, but is believed to be between 40 and 60 years old.

Police say the bicyclist was travelling south and was struck by an unknown vehicle driving in the same direction.

"Given the amount of traffic in the area, it is likely that the collision took place only minutes before the APD received the call from the passers-by," APD Const. Ian MacDonald said in a press release.

The driver of the vehicle did not remain on the scene, and while investigators have gathered some evidence, police are appealing to witnesses and the driver to come forward..

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, text at 222973 (abbypd), or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
