Atangard Community Project hosts open house

The project operates as a not-for-profit society with a board of directors. Board and resident meetings are held on a regular basis.

The Atangard Community Project hosts an open house on Saturday, Sept. 22 in celebration of its three-year anniversary.

Doors are open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 33790 Essendene Ave. (Entry is on the Essendene side beneath the Atangard sign.)

The Atangard Community Project was founded by Sophia Suderman of Abbotsford and her father Dave. Sophia still serves as the executive director.

The two purchased the rooming division of the Fraser Valley Inn, and opened the newly renovated space to tenants on Sept. 1, 2009.

The project operates as a not-for-profit society with a board of directors. Board and resident meetings are held on a regular basis.

Twenty rooms are available for occupancy. Each has its own bathroom, and the kitchen, dining room, lounge, and laundry facilities are shared.

Tenants contribute $10 a month each towards food staples such as flour, sugar and oil, and take turns paying the additional costs to serve two dinners a month to all the residents.

The project also runs an auto-share program, providing two vehicles and two scooters for loan. Participants pay a monthly membership fee and must cover the mileage costs.

Interested tenants can request an application form by emailing atangard@gmail.com. For more information, visit the website atangardcommunityproject.blogspot.ca.
