Armed woman arrested after Delta hostage-taking incident

A 49-year-old woman was arrested following a hostage taking incident at the Delta probation office on Tuesday morning.

A 49-year-old was arrested after a probation officer was allegedly held at knife-point in Delta.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police received several 911 calls about a hostage-taking at the probation office on the 8200 block of 120 Street.

Officers arrived to learn that a female probation officer was allegedly being held at knife-point in a locked office by a 49-year-old woman.

The probation offices were evacuated, and police talked to the distraught women through the door.

Concerned for the victim’s safety, officers breached the door and distracted the suspect.

They officers formed a human shield between the suspect and the hostage, who was safely evacuated, police said. The incident was resolved within minutes of the initial 911 call.

No one was injured.

“The suspect suffers from severe mental health issues and has a violent mental health history spending several years,” police said in a news release.
