Abbotsford Police have arrested a man they say was posing online as a 19-year-old and targeting 15-year-old girls for sex.

Jeremy Michael Roth, 23, was arrested on Monday and has been charged with child luring.

Const. Paul Walker said the investigation was launched after police received a tip in December that a man from Abbotsford was participating in such activity.

A detective from the Abbotsford Police Department’s (APD) major crime unit then posed online as a 15-year-old girl and communicated with the man, who requested they meet for sex.

The investigation took several weeks, and Roth was arrested on Monday at the alleged pre-arranged meeting spot in a local park. He has no prior criminal record.

Walker said no actual victims have come forward or been identified, but police are asking to speak with anyone who might have information as the major crime unit continues its investigation.

Walker said the incident serves as a reminder for parents to be aware of their children’s online activities.

“In addition, parents should be familiar with all of their children’s friends and their whereabouts at all times,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the APD at 604-859-5225 or text abbypd (222973).
