Treacherous road conditions and black ice have caused multiple collisions around Abbotsford Monday morning, and the police are urging the public to slow down and be cautious.

A multi-vehicle accident involving a semi truck around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Maclure Road and Trafalgar Street shut down eastbound traffic on Maclure at Gladwin road.

Another multi-car accident on Maclure has shut down the thoroughfare in the opposite direction west of Clearbrook Road. That accident involved eight vehicles including a bus, Abbotsford Police Const Ian MacDonald said.

Another accident was reported at the intersection of Gladwin and Downes road.

MacDonald urged people to slow down.

"People believe that we got a respite from the snow. The good news is they can see the road as opposed to driving on hard-packed snow."

MacDonald said: "They're seeing the road, they're not seeing the black ice."

"Some people have resumed what you would consider normal driving, and we need them to continue winter driving."

The conditions caused a temporarily halt to all bus service in Abbotsford and Mission. Bus service in Abbotsford has since resumed, although service remained halted along three Mission routes as of 10:50 a.m.
