Day camps for kids being held during teachers' strike
Some local groups are holding day camps this week during the teachers' strike.
The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford (32388 Veterans Way) hosts drop-in art camps for kids ages six to 12. The camps will run while teachers are on strike.
Two camps per day will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Mondays from 9 to 11:45 a.m. and from 12:15 to 3 p.m.
They are held on a drop-in basis, with payment for each day being taken the morning of the camp. Kids may attend both camps each day, with care being provided during the 30-minute break between the sessions.
The cost is $20 per child for a half day or $40 for the full day.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m. sharp each day. Registration can be done in person at The Reach or by calling 604-864-8087.
Also offering day camps during the strike is the EcoDairy on Sumas Way. "Dairy Drop-ins" run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:45 a.m. for ages four to seven and from 12:15 to 3 p.m. for ages eight to 12.
Cost for each session is $18 per child. Email email@example.com to book a date or visit ecodairy.ca for more information.
Abbotsford Dance Center hosts a fine arts camp at least for the first two weeks of September or until the strike is over.
The camp for ages five to 13 runs Sept. 2 to 5 at a cost of $120 and Sept. 8 to 12 for $150. Sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. Daily enrolment is also being taken at a cost of $31.50 per day.
