UPDATED: Fire damages Abbotsford restaurant

A South Fraser Way restaurant suffered extensive fire and smoke damage Monday afternoon.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service assistant chief Ron Hull said crews responded to Donairo’s in the 33300 block of South Fraser, near the corner of Bourquin Crescent, after the restaurant owners saw smoke at the rear of the building around 3 p.m.

There was heavy black smoke rolling out the back side of the building, with the building entirely full of smoke, according to Hull.

The cause is unknown and no injuries were reported.

The restaurant was open at the time. When store owners noticed the smoke, they evacuated and called 9-1-1.

"The fire looks like it's done some extensive damage. Smoke damage to the building is extensive as well," said Hull. "It's a small business. You don't like to see these things happen."

Fire services responded with 10 units and approximately 30 staff. Abbotsford Police, B.C. Ambulance Service, Fortis and BC Hydro also attended the scene.
