A fire on a second-floor apartment balcony was quickly quelled by Abbotsford firefighters Wednesday afternoon.

Abbotsford Fire and Rescue Service responded to the Valley View Manor apartment building at 2551 Willow Lane, on the northwest corner of Old Yale Road and Willow Lane, shortly after 3 p.m.

According to assistant chief Dave Rivett, the fire did not spread.

A city press release said investigators determined "the fire was accidental and the likely cause was improper disposal of smoking materials."

Damage is estimated at $25,000.
