An Abbotsford man has been convicted in relation to an incident last May in which another man was forced into a bank under orders to withdraw cash.
Darin Eggen, 39, was sentenced on Jan. 8 in Abbotsford provincial court to a jail term of 11 months, 10 days followed by two years' probation on charges of assault with a weapon and extortion.
Five other charges – assault causing bodily harm, robbery, two counts of kidnapping and another count of extortion – were stayed.
On May 30 of last year, a 34-year-old man was robbed, knocked unconscious and forced into a vehicle with his 31-year-old girlfriend.

The victim was told to withdraw cash, but was able to alert the teller to the situation, and police were alerted.
Just over two hours later, Eggen was arrested at a home on Peardonville Road.
According to the provincial court database, Eggen has numerous prior convictions, including for assault, fear of injury by another person, breach, uttering threats, impaired driving, resisting a police officer and drug possession.
