UPDATE: Fatal car accident at Townline and Olund roads
Police were still trying to determine yesterday who was driving the vehicle that crashed on Tuesday morning in Abbotsford, killing one of the four occupants.
Gurgan Sidhu, 19, died in hospital following the crash that occurred on Townline Road, just south of Olund Road at approximately 2:15 a.m., when a red Acura went off the road and into a ditch.
There were four men in the vehicle – all from Abbotsford – ranging from 19 to 25 years old.
Const. Ian MacDonald said that when police arrived, all the men were out of the vehicle, and Sidhu was found on the road. MacDonald said he was likely thrown from the vehicle, but police have not yet determined whether he was wearing a seatbelt.
All parties were transported to hospital, with the most seriously injured being Sidhu, who was in critical condition. He passed away in hospital a short time later. The three other men suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
MacDonald said initial reports indicated that three men approached a resident of the area and asked the person to use her personal vehicle to transport the critically injured man to hospital instead of involving first responders. The neighbour then called emergency services.
MacDonald said the request “throws up some flags” for police, who are continuing to investigate what occurred. The three surviving men have not disclosed who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, but police do not believe it was Sidhu.
“We’re working diligently to determine who was driving the vehicle and what roles each of the four occupants in the vehicle played.”
The Abbotsford Police Department’s patrol division, major crime unit and collision reconstructionists are continuing to investigate the crash.
