UPDATE: Young girl struck by car on South Fraser Way
A 10-year-old girl who was struck by a vehicle in Abbotsford on Monday afternoon was not as seriously injured as first thought.
Sgt. Casey Vinet said the girl, who was initially stated to be in critical condition, has injuries that have since been categorized as non-life-threatening. She was airlifted to hospital.
The accident took place on Monday in the 32300 block of South Fraser Way in the vicinity of city hall and the Abbotsford courthouse.
Vinet said the girl and her mom were walking across the marked crosswalk in the area when the girl was struck by a 2008 Jeep Compass driven by an 18-year-old girl, who remained on the scene.
Vinet said the incident is still under investigation.
There have been several incidents involving pedestrians this year in Abbotsford, including two fatalities – Shaminder Brar, 34, whose body was found on Riverside Road on Feb. 18, and an 86-year-old woman who was struck in a crosswalk at McKenzie and King roads on Feb. 28 and died two days later.
