Youth Commission rally takes stand against bullying

A rally was held at the Abbotsford Youth Commission centre on Wednesday afternoon in recognition of Anti-Bullying Day.

About 50 young people turned out for the event at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), where they heard Abbotsford Police Sgt. Casey Vinet address the issue of bullying.

Vinet, sporting the Abbotsford Police's pink uniform shirt that all officers wore for the day, discussed the different types of bullying, what kids can do and why bullies bully – for power and status.

"Wouldn't it be better to elevate your status by being nice?" he asked the group.

Participants wrote messages on poster board taped to the wall to complete the message "I will stop bullying by …."

The youths also held a small parade, in which they carried posters with anti-bullying messages down the hallway of ARC before returning to the youth centre.
