Body discovered on Riverside Road

Police are on scene at Riverside Road in Abbotsford after a woman's body was discovered on Monday morning.

Few details are available at this time. The body was found on the side of Riverside Road about halfway between King and Vye roads.

Const. Ian MacDonald said police received a call at about 10:15 a.m. from a passerby who saw the body.

Traffic has been shut down along Riverside Road in both directions as police continue the investigation. The Abbotsford Police Department's patrol, forensic identification and major crime sections are on the scene.

MacDonald said police will be consulting with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), as is standard procedure in the case of a suspicious death, to determine who will ultimately assume responsibility of the file.

The cause of death is not yet known.
