Abbotsford Police are investigating two robberies in which the suspect was wearing a replica of the mask from the popular "Scream" horror movies.

The first incident took place at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at a convenience store in the 3000 block of Immel Street. A man wearing the mask demanded cash from an employee and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun.

He then fled on foot.

The second robbery occurred on Saturday, Jan. 5 at about 6 p.m. at a gas station in the 31000 block of Livingstone Avenue.

In addition to wearing the mask, the man was carrying a black bag and a black handgun.

After he demanded cash, the employee grabbed and pushed the robber, who fled without cash. The employee was not injured.

Const. Ian MacDonald said although the worker's action were understandable, police do not condone such a response.

"We want to warn people that may not work out that way for you."

MacDonald said although police believe the two robberies are connected, they are not certain whether the same man was involved in both incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
