Man stuck in mud rescued by Abbotsford fire crews

A man who had apparently been trapped for several hours in Abbotsford's Willband Creek was rescued at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday by fire crews.

it appears that the man fell down a 30-foot embankment into the creek in Ravine Park, at the end of Switzer Avenue, possibly as early as 6 a.m.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) was called to the scene, and crews found the man stuck in mud and water up to his armpits. He was not wearing a shirt.

Crews, using just their hands, managed to pull the man out of the mud. He was then placed in a basket stretcher and transported up the embankment using rope lines.

The man, who was disoriented and suffering from hypothermia, was taken to hospital for treatment.
