Convicted murderer dies in Abbotsford prison
An inmate who was serving time for killing a woman in Kamloops in 1998 has died of apparent natural causes at Pacific Institution1 in Abbotsford.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) reported on Wednesday that Frank Wilson, 79, died Dec. 28 following a lengthy illness in the institutional hospital.
Don Hahn, acting assistant warden, said as in all cases where a person dies in custody, the police and coroner have been notified.
In addition, the CSC will review the circumstances surrounding the death.
Wilson was serving a life sentence for the second-degree murder of Yvette Paul, 33.
Wilson was the manager of a Kamloops apartment building, where Paul was living at the time.
Wilson stalked her for several months before slashing her throat and striking her in the head. He was arrested at the scene.
The judge at his sentencing hearing described the attack as "brutal and vicious."
Wilson was charged with first-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence. He was sentenced in January 1999 to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.
