Missing Abbotsford teen found safe after frantic phone call

A missing person case in Abbotsford has had an unusual ending.

Abbotsford Police received a report Monday night from a man who said he had received a panicked call from his friend, Mohsin Shah.

Const. Ian MacDonald said Shah, 18, had driven away from his home in the Blueridge Drive area of Abbotsford at about 7 p.m. in a grey Acura SUV.

A few minutes later, he made a panicked call to the friend, indicating he was in trouble and that his family and police must be called, MacDonald said.

The phone call was cut off and attempts to contact Shah failed. The friend then called police and Shah's family.

The teen was supposed to attend a business meeting at an Abbotsford hotel last night, but did not show up.

At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) received a 911 call from a man who said he was Shah.

The caller provided his location and several APD patrol units went to the area at No. 3 Road and South Parallel Road, just north of Highway 1.

Police on the scene confirmed that the man was Shah. The area was cordoned off while investigators combed the scene for evidence, although it is not known what they were looking for.

"Our investigators are endeavouring to determine exactly what happened to him (Shah)," MacDonald said.

He said the incident does not have any apparent gang or drug connections. More details will be provided as they become available.
