A head-on collision has claimed the life of a 67-year-old Chilliwack woman.
The incident occurred in Abbotsford just before 10 a.m. on Monday. Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on the No. 11 bypass just south of the Old Clayburn Road overpass.
The lone male driver of a van was airlifted by B.C. Ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital, where he continues to receive medical treatment.
The lone female driver of the passenger vehicle died of her injuries at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
Abbotsford Police Sgt. Casey Vinet said it appears that the white van, which was traveling south on the bypass, may have “drifted over the centre line,” striking the other vehicle.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Collision analysts were expected to be on scene for several hours. However, the bypass was re-opened to limited traffic by 1 p.m. on Monday.
The Abbotsford Police Department extends its condolences to the woman’s family.
