BC NDP candidate to take on John van Dongen
Lakhvinder Jhaj has been named the BC NDP candidate in Abbotsford-South.
Jhaj will run against independent MLA John van Dongen in the May 2013 provincial election. He has held the seat for over 15 years.
Originally from Mission, then Abbotsford, Jhaj moved to Penticton in 1986 and spent 24 years there. She ran for the NDP in the 2009 election in the riding of Boundary-Similkameen.
Two years ago, she and her family moved back to Abbotsford.
“I’ve been involved in politics for such a long time. When I came here, people started talking to me,” she said regarding her decision to run.
She grew up on a farm and calls herself a small business person which she feels will help her connect with the community.
