Salvation Army warns of canvasser in Abbotsford
The Salvation Army in Abbotsford has received two complaints that a woman is going door-to-door selling small items to raise money for the organization.
But spokesperson Deb Lowell said the agency has never heard of such a campaign and is concerned the woman might be collecting funds for herself.
Lowell said two unrelated callers reported that last Thursday (Sept. 6), a woman knocked on their doors on Capri Court in Abbotsford, and was selling items such as fridge magnets and clips for potato chip bags.
The woman suggested a donation of $7 to $10 on behalf of the Salvation Army. She was described as a slight, blonde woman in her 50s with her hair pulled back in a ponytail.
Lowell said the Sally Ann has received reports of this nature a couple times each year over the last three years. In none of these situations has an individual come forward to turn over funds raised through such a venture, she said.
Lowell said the Salvation Army has not conducted any door-to-door campaigns in the community for about 10 years.
