Couple's vacation ruined by trailer fire
A Surrey couple had their vacation ruined Wednesday morning when their trailer caught fire along Highway 1 in Abbotsford.
The couple had just left their home en route for a two-week camping trip in the Okanagan when they noticed smoke coming from the unit at about 11 a.m.
They pulled off the freeway at the Highway 11 exit, and quickly detached their Dodge Ram pickup truck from the Sandpiper trailer.
Another motorist, who had a fire extinguisher in his vehicle, helped put out the flames coming from the interior of the RV. When fire crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke was coming from the trailer.
The couple and their two dogs were not injured. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
