Robber arrested after officer spots him walking along street
An officer investigating a bank robbery on Tuesday afternoon in Abbotsford came across the suspect walking down the street just a few minutes later.
The 29-year-old man was arrested and is now facing robbery charges.
The incident occurred just after noon at a bank in the 32800 block of South Fraser Way.
Const. Ian MacDonald said a man walked into the bank, eventually approached a teller and handed over a note that implied he was carrying a weapon in his backpack.
The teller handed over a small amount of cash and the culprit fled on foot.
Witnesses provided a description of the man to officers who arrived on the scene.
An officer who left the bank then came across a person matching the description walking along Bourquin Crescent, not far from the robbery scene.
The man, who MacDonald said is known to police for petty crimes, was arrested after evidence of the bank robbery was allegedly found in his possession.
Charges were expected to be laid on Wednesday. The man cannot be named until that time.
