Two houses, vehicles damaged by Mission fire

Two Mission families are being put up in temporary lodgings after a fire in the 7900-block of Burdock Street severely damaged two residences and vehicles Friday night.

Firefighters were called around 11:30 p.m. and crews found the carport, roof and a pair of vehicles on fire at one house. The flames had spread to a neighbouring home, but firefighters were able to douse the fire quickly and contain it to the roof area, said Fire Chief Ian Fitzpatrick.

Power lines had fallen across the two vehicles, which made accessing the fire at the first house problematic, he said.

A mother and two daughters were living in the severely damaged home, while a husband and wife lived in the other residence. The Emergency Social Services team has taken the families to a hotel under the Provincial Emergency Program, said Fitzpatrick.

No one was injured and an investigation is planned.

More details when they become available.
