The body found in a field on Farmer Road in Abbotsford on Sunday morning has been identified as 31-year-old Jimmy Chau of Edmonton, Alta.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound, spokesperson for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said in a release that Chau is known to police. His murder appears to be a "targeted and gang-related homicide," she added.

"An autopsy has been completed and although the cause of death will not be released, I can tell you the injuries are consistent with a homicide," she said.

Pound said IHIT cannot confirm, at this time, how long Chau had been in the province, whether he had a criminal record and what gang affiliations he might have had.

IHIT investigators are asking for anyone with information to come forward by calling the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or emailing ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. They can also call CrimeStoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a tip on their website at Solvecrime.ca
