Abbotsford man to run for presidency of B.C. Teachers' Federation
The former leader of the Abbotsford District Teachers' Association has announced that he intends to seek the presidency of the B.C. Teachers' Federation (BCTF).
Rick Guenther, currently BCTF member at large, announced his intentions on Friday during the union's winter assembly in Richmond. He will run against current president Susan Lambert at the BCTF's general meeting in March.
On his Facebook page1 announcing his plans, Guenther said he believes that the reputation of the BCTF needs to be improved.
"We should be seen as well-respected defenders of public education as a common good," he stated.
He said the BCTF must stand its ground in improving working and learning conditions for teachers and "avoid distractions such as speculations about possible government action."
