School suspensions drop slightly in Abbotsford
Out-of-school suspensions in Abbotsford were down about six per cent in 2010-11 compared to the previous year, according to a report released by the school district.
Overall, there were 805 suspensions, with the highest number (167) occurring in Grade 10, followed by Grades 9 and 11. Categories causing the most suspensions were drugs, defiance and fighting.
About 20 per cent of the suspensions were referred to the Alternative to Suspension Program, a partnership with the Chilliwack YMCA based out of the Abbotsford Recreation Centre. In school-suspensions totalled 683 for the same period.
