A man whom Abbotsford Police issued a public warning about earlier this year is in trouble with the law again.

David Joseph Dutiaume, 24, was charged with mischief relating to an incident in Abbotsford on Dec. 18. No specifics were available about the matter, and he is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9.

He was released on $500 bail.

Dutiaume was the subject of a police warning in April, when he was released from prison after serving his full six-year sentence for the violent sexual assault of an 84-year-old Surrey woman.

Police warned that he would be living in, or frequenting, the Abbotsford area. At the time, Const. Ian MacDonald said the public was being notified of Dutiaume’s release because concerns arose during his incarceration that reintegration in the community could be an issue.

Dutiaume was 15 years old in June 2002 when he posed as a donations collector for Unicef and forced his way into the home of a senior woman. He put a pillow over her face, punched her repeatedly and raped her. DNA evidence tied him to the crime two years later, and he was sentenced as an adult.
