Jewelry store robber from Abbotsford pleads guilty
A 37-year-old Abbotsford man, Jason Liss, has been sentenced to two years in jail and ordered to pay restitution of almost $91,000 after pleading guilty to a jewelry store heist.
On May 10, 2009, the Romance Jewelry store, located in Lynn Valley Mall in North Vancouver, was broken into by two hooded men.
The store had surveillance equipment which captured the suspects breaking in through glass doors and stealing approximately $90,00 worth of jewelry. The store's alarm had malfunctioned.
RCMP investigators matched blood found on a shard of glass at the scene to Liss. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Aug. 23, 2011.
Liss was later determined to be living in Vancouver. It was learned he was armed and dangerous and considered a high-risk arrest.
Vancouver Police officers were accompanied by their emergency response team when they arrested him on Oct. 3, 2011.
Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesperson for North Vancouver RCMP, commended the investigating officers.
"If not for the keen observation by police at the crime scene and the diligence of the RCMP and Vancouver Police, Mr. Liss may have remained at large," he said.
