MEI's marching band enjoys busy weekend at the Grey Cup
The MEI Screaming Eagles Marching Band enjoyed one of the best weekends in the history of the program, as a part of the Grey Cup festivities in Vancouver over the weekend.
Sponsored by Scotiabank, 86 students in the band lent their enthusiasm to numerous events, starting on Friday when they played for a cauldron lighting ceremony, and during the Vanier Cup university championship.
On Saturday they played before an audience of 100,000 in Vancouver’s Grey Cup parade, and that evening they played a Grey Cup gala event attended by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Sunday, the Eagles performed for the CFL commissioner’s breakfast, and played in the family zone at B.C. Place Stadium prior to the Grey Cup game – ultimately won by the B.C. Lions.
“It’s rewarding for the kids to know that their hard work and time commitment has allowed them to do some cool things,” said MEI’s director of bands Chad Joiner. “The vibe there was really neat – the place was just humming, and we were immersed in it.”
