Double stabbing outside Abbotsford restaurant
Two men were stabbed in an altercation early Friday morning outside of the Denny's restaurant at 32720 Simon Ave. (just west of Gladwin Road) in Abbotsford.
The men were initially taken to Abbotsford Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, but one of them, age 19, was suffering from internal injuries and was transferred for surgery to another Lower Mainland hospital.
The other man, age 24, was expected to be released from hospital sometime Friday.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the incident began inside the restaurant between two groups of people from the ages of late teens to early 20s.
MacDonald said one group was leaving the restaurant at about 2:30 a.m., when "either something was said or somebody looked at someone the wrong way."
The second group then followed them into the parking lot, and two men from each side got into a physical altercation.
When it was over, the first group got into a vehicle and drove away, while the other group went back into the restaurant to retrieve their belongings.
MacDonald said while the first group was driving away, two of them noticed they were bleeding, and they were then driven to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
MacDonald said police have spoken to them, and they have all been cooperative. Some of them are from outside of B.C., but they do not appear to have any gang or criminal connections, he said.
Police are still trying to track down the other group. Video surveillance from inside the restaurant is being viewed to assist in identifying them.
Police would not reveal how many people were in each group nor how many men and/or women there were.
